Shop the Shore

 About Us

Shop the Shore began as a four page flyer called The Co-Operative Advertiser in 1986.  Local resident and founder, Glenda Power, created the publication to advertise her business, "Kit'n Caboodle." Glenda had partnered with "Crescent Electronics" and "Golden Coast Seafood" and the first issue was released.

Glenda worked with local companies to join her in this new venture and a co-operative of twelve local businesses was formed. Together, these companies called the publication Shop the Shore.  Each advertiser was responsible for creating their own ad, taking it to the printer, then meeting monthly with the other co-operative members to assemble the issue by hand.

In 1987, Shop the Shore Publications became an official business and three years later, Glenda sold her share of the business to Maria Doyle; owner of "Upsa Daisy Florist." Throughout the years, Maria grew Shop the Shore and established it as an effective, reliable way for small businesses to reach local customers at an affordable price.

After 23 years of successful business, Maria retired in January 2009 and sold the publication to Kevin Murphy, another long time resident from Musquodoboit Harbour. Kevin, an entrepreneur from the Shore who was owner of "KSM Entertainment Pro DJ Services", made many connections throughout his years in business to help continue the growth and success of Shop the Shore.

In July 2012, Shop the Shore Publications expanded its reach into Cole Harbour with a new publication entitled The Cole Harbour Merchant. The Merchant is a growing publication providing even more cost effectively advertising to local businesses, reaching over 19,500 homes.

Kevin became MLA for the Eastern Shore and Speaker of the Nova Scotia Legislature in October 2013. In March 2015, he sold “Shop the Shore Publications” to another long-time local resident of the Eastern Shore, Jeff Dwyer.

Jeff, who has an extensive business background, also owns Trimar Promotional Products, Trimar Accounting Services Limited and Dwyer MacDonald Inc. He and his team continue to build on the past success of both Shop the Shore and The Cole Harbour Merchant. The Shop the Shore team is made up of local residents and the whole team looks forward to many more years of success with both publications.
